I'm shy really, says Imogen Bailey

SHE'S diplomatic about it, but Imogen Bailey won't deny there were cat fights between her and witch Fiona Horne on remote Vanuatu this year.

The two locked horns on Celebrity Survivor, and it's fair to say they didn't the leave the island as friends.
"Let me say I have a lot of respect for Fiona and if we met on the outside we probably would get along," Bailey said in Melbourne yesterday.

"But we did clash, and she is a very strong personality.

"I'm quite a shy person. When you see the magazine covers, that's not the real Imogen, so I found the confrontation hard.

"It wasn't made any easier when you have a group of strong personalities and there is no food."

While Horne has slammed host Ian "Dicko" Dickson, saying his behaviour was "unnecessarily derogatory and sexist", Bailey was all positive.

"Dicko has a huge heart and is an extremely caring person. I think he did an amazing job," she said.

Dicko's Survivor Controversy!

FORMER Idol meanie Dicko has been slammed for being "derogatory" and "sexist" by a contestant on his latest reality show, Celebrity Survivor.

Dicko has come under fire from contestant Fiona Horne for being sexist in his hosting gig on new Channel 7 ploy for ratings, Celebrity Survivor.

White witch Horne, one of the D-list celebrities sent to Vanuatu last month to take part in the series, said Dicko's insulting comments on the set were out of line.

"I found a lot of his behaviour to be unnecessarily derogatory and sexist,'' Horne said.

"He said deliberately provocative things. He basically said the girls can't look after themselves and needed a man to rescue them.''

Horne said she was disgusted by Dickson's cheap shots at the female contestants.

"He was doing himself a discredit. I don't know why he does it because he is smarter and funnier than that,'' she said.

"I don't think that (making sexist and derogatory comments) is humourous. It is boring. I clashed with him.''

But while Dicko copped it from Hornebags, he received plenty of support yesterday from another Celebrity Survivor contestant, Imogen Bailey.

"Dicko has a huge heart and is an extremely caring person,'' Bailey said.

"I think he did an amazing job.''

Gabby shoots for Celebrity Survivor

THEY don't call her the Pleasure Machine for nothing.

Wearing a low-cut dress and puckering up for a pout, Gabrielle Richens turned up the heat on an otherwise chilly Curl Curl beach during a shoot for Celebrity Survivior yesterday.

But while the series small screen debut in two weeks time may be hotly anticipated by reality TV lovers, the Pleasure Machine is awaiting something far more, um, pleasurable than battling the elements on an island in Vanuatu.

Richens _ who famously lured Canterbury forward Solomon Haumono away from his $200,000-a-year contract to London _ has cast her spell on Hollywood star Shemar Moore.

The 36-year-old star of the US hit series Criminal Minds will travel to Sydney to be re-united with his beached babe in two weeks time, with his trip coinciding with the launch of Celebrity Survivor.

Despite it being one of the easiest birth dates to remember (7/7/77), it took me until 5pm to register that today was Imogen's birthday!

Network chiefs prepare to unveil their new babies

No it's Seven, not Nine: seems the Packer -owned Network missed that one. Seven says the concept has been around for two years. It does though sound like that U.K. TV horror "I'm A Celebrity, Get me Out of Here".

Production started this week in Vanuatu on the series: what a way to spend the next three months of the Sydney-Melbourne Winter!

It will be hosted by Ian “Dicko” Dickson (a real gig, non-dancing for him, at last),Seven says Celebrity Survivor will pitch a group of Australian identities from the world of sport, television, film and politics against each other as they step out of their comfort zone – no tents, no sleeping bags, no tools and no food – and battle the elements.

It sounds a bit like the after party at The Logies!

Filming starts on Aussie 'Celebrity Survivor'

A celebrity version of Survivor has begun filming in Vanuatu for Australia's Seven Network.

The format of the series is expected to be similar to the original, but with well-known Aussie faces in place of unknowns.

Hosting is Ian 'Dicko' Dickson (My Restaurant Rules, Australian Idol), while celeb contestants include Gabrielle “The Pleasure Machine” Richens, former ironman Guy Leech, politician David Oldfield and model Imogen Bailey.

"With Celebrity Survivor, we've been able to convince some pretty surprising candidates into doing this show," said Tim Worner, Seven’s director of programming and production. "The celebrities are barred from communicating with anyone off the island while they are there but Dicko has been in touch to let us know he's been giving them a few surprises of his own."

Survivor was previously adapted for the Aussie market but was axed after one season due to bad ratings. Vanuatu has previously been used as a location for the original US series.

Channel 7 yesterday announced Celebrity Survivor . Yes, Channel 7 - not Channel 9 - will screen the program, thanks to a legal loophole in the contract with the creators of the original Survivor .

Just like Channel 10's Skating With Celebrities , the star status of this batch of castaways is somewhat questionable. Gabrielle "The Pleasure Machine" Richen's, former ironman Guy Leech, politician David Oldfield and model Imogen Bailey have been announced so far, with a promise of more to come.

Daily Telegraph - Dicko to host Celebrity Survivor

THE last time Australia saw Ian "Dicko'' Dickson on the small screen he was sashaying across a dance floor in frills and tight pants.

Television's resident larrikin's latest venture is to host the Seven Network's new reality program Celebrity Survivor.

On the back of the recently launched variety show It Takes Two and the top-rating Dancing With the Stars, Seven has pulled more celebrities out of the bag.

Personalities including Gabrielle ``The Pleasure Machine'' Richens, former ironman Guy Leech, NSW politician David Oldfield and model Imogen Bailey were shipped off to Vanuatu late last week to battle the elements.

Stepping out of their comfort zones and into the wildness, each star will work against the other with no tents, sleeping bags, tools or food in a battle for the best star survivor.

Seven hopes the program will be a ratings winner and will announce more contestants soon.

``With Celebrity Survivor, we've been able to convince some pretty surprising candidates into doing this show,'' said Tim Worner, Seven's director of programming and production.

``The celebrities are barred from communicating with anyone outside the island while they are there but Dicko has been in touch to let us know he's been giving them a few surprises of his own.''

With just the clothes on their backs and one favourite item, the stars will be voted off one by one with only one winner.

It is believed the winning celebrity will spend a total of three weeks on the island.

``These celebrities are used to red carpets and star treatment - they have no idea how tough this shoot is going to be,'' said David Mason, Celebrity Survivor's series producer.

``They are in for the shock of their lives.''

While Nine has the rights to screen the US version of Survivor, Seven have the rights to a local version.

Celebrity Survivor joins Seven's mid-year programs that includes new Aussie series The Real Seachange and True Blue and the returning local series True Stories, hosted by Anna Coren.

American smash hits Greys Anatomy and 24 return next month.

Well we've been getting so many emails asking about Imogen's MySpace website that we thought we should address it here once and for all.

No ... it isn't really Imogen. Neither Imogen or myself has setup this MySpace account, nor did we give permission or endorse any of the material published on the site. The person who is running this account on MySpace is pretending to be Imogen by posting photos, comments and information that is mostly just made up or taken from other interviews.

TRUTH: While Imogen does travel a lot, she does make a point of spending as much time as possible at her Sydney home with her dogs and her family close by. As for the beach, hanging out with friends, shopping and staying in shape ... doesn't that summarize 50% of Australian women?!

Stafford – Disguised as a “bear” and waving a sign which reads, “God Save the Bears”, a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) protester will make sure Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II doesn’t forget there is a growing call for her to switch to faux fur for the Household Guards’ bearskin hats. As part of an international campaign, PETA’s “bear” will follow the Queen during her walkabout in Stafford's Market Square this morning. The “bear” will encourage Her Majesty to call off the slaughter of Canada’s black bears for the Queen’s Guards’ ceremonial bearskin hats and replace the fur with modern synthetic materials.

It can take the entire hide of one bear to make just one guard’s headpiece. The skins come from bears who are shot in Canada. Many bears are shot several times before they die, while some escape the hunters and bleed to death. When mother bears are killed, orphaned cubs, who cannot survive on their own, are left behind.

After months of campaigning, PETA Europe reached the negotiating table with the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) and is now working with several faux-fur manufacturers to find a suitable alternative to real bear skins; the first trialled faux-fur hats were deemed unacceptable by the MoD. Although this is a step in the right direction, Queen Elizabeth II and the MoD continue to allow bears to be killed for these hats while the trials are underway.

“Queen Elizabeth II has had to modernise many things ever since Princess Diana expressed her opposition to the wearing of fur”, says PETA Europe Managing Director Ingrid E. Newkirk. “It is time she forbade the killing of bears for her guards’ hats because cruelty has no place in the modern world.”

PETA Europe has enlisted high-profile support from Imogen Bailey, Sir Roger Moore, Morrissey, Julian Clary, Pamela Anderson, Twiggy, Amanda Holden, Hayley Mills and others in calling for a ban on bear fur in the Household Guards’ headwear.

ONSTAGE, it was the story of Britain's greatest musical queen – and on the red carpet, it was Sydney's own divas who starred.

Last night's opening of Dusty had showbiz glamour veteran Rhonda Burchmore in her element, outshining her younger challengers.

Putting on her best Paris Hilton poses and proudly announcing the Cerrone piece around her neck, she positively glowed.

A little more vertically challenged, Imogen Bailey wasn't far behind in the glamour stakes and Sophie Falkiner sparkled with mother Aleida – even if veteran actor Frankie J Holden needed to be told who the former Wheel of Fortune letter-spinner was.

Making a blonde treble Sami Lukis had – as Dusty Springfield herself once sang – "the look of love" for her lucky partner.

Australian supermodel Imogen Bailey has laid claim to the title of Australia's sexiest model and graced magazine covers from Down Under to continental Europe and the U.K. Now, supermodel and actress Imogen Bailey has posed au naturel for a brand-new ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia-Pacific, which aims to draw attention to the cruelty to animals inherent in the fur industry. Shown kneeling down and strategically covered only by the bunny she's holding, the ad—which is in English and Korean—carries the tagline "Hands Off the Buns! … No Fur."

"I'll gladly bare my skin if it will help save animals' skins," says Imogen, who was featured on the Australian version of the TV show Celebrity Big Brother and has appeared on stage in The Vagina Monologues. "Buying anything with fur—even if it's "just a little trim"—supports one of the most gruesome industries on the planet."

Korea is one of the world's leading fur consumers. Animals trapped in the wild for their fur often suffer for days before they are stomped or bludgeoned to death. Animals on fur farms are confined to tiny, filthy cages before they are poisoned, gassed, or electrocuted or have their necks broken. PETA has obtained undercover video footage showing how fur farmers in China—now the world's leading fur producer—swing foxes and raccoon dogs by their hind legs and smash their heads on the ground, breaking the animals' necks but leaving them panting, blinking, and conscious as they are skinned alive.

This isn't the first time that Imogen has helped PETA help animals. She posed for an ad calling for a tourist boycott of Thailand until the Thai government acts to protect elephants, and she lent her voice to PETA Europe's campaign against the use of real bear fur in the hats worn by the British queen's guards. For her outstanding efforts to fight animal abuse, Imogen was presented with PETA's 25th Anniversary International Humanitarian Award in 2005.

Coming up in '06!

Wow, the year has gone so fast! I am right now recovering from jetlag after returning from a trip this week, where I spent a few weeks in Hamburg & dropped into London for a few days on the way back. I was shooting a lingerie catalogue in Hamburg, then I had meetings in London & tried my best to avoid the freezing weather!

I met with a lot of people to talk about upcoming projects so I'll keep you posted as those develop! Right now I'm spending a few days catching up on some paperwork and writing my column for Zoo Magazine.

I filmed an episode of Ready ... Steady ... Cook recently with my Skating on Thin Ice friend Peter Everett, & the fun Chloe Maxwell. That will air at 2pm on the 9th March, on Channel 10.

Whilst shooting the TV commercial for Zoo Magazine I had an interview with two of the life guards doing Bondi Rescue for ten so that will be on soon too. I have to say I enjoyed doing this interview more than most!!! Watch for Bondi Rescue on Channel 10!
